Lubrication

Suspension and Steering

Lubricate the suspension and steering components with POLARIS Premium All-Season Grease at 500 miles (800 km) and annually or every 1000 miles (1600 km) thereafter. A grease gun kit, complete with grease and adaptors, is available to lubricate all fittings on POLARIS snowmobiles.

Rear Suspension

Grease the rear suspension pivot shafts (raise the rear of unit). Locations are shown below .

Driveshaft Bearing

Inject grease into the fitting on the speedometer drive adaptor until grease purges from inside or outside the bearing seal (approximately two pumps).

Throttle Cable

Lubricate the throttle cable lightly with grease or oil. With the engine off, turn the handlebars to the left and lubricate liberally.

Choke and Choke Cable

Lubricate the choke slide and cables lightly with oil or grease. Before turning the engine off, operate the choke intermittently to draw moisture out of the choke plunger area and reduce the possibility of the choke becoming frozen.

Coupler Greasing

Grease the couplers on the jackshaft and driveshaft .

Gearcase Oil

Check and change the gearcase oil at the intervals outlined in the maintenance charts beginning on page 70. Maintain the oil level in the SAFE range on the dipstick. POLARIS recommends the use of POLARIS Synthetic Chaincase Lube, or equivalent product.

Oil Level

  1. Position the vehicle on a level surface.
  2. Remove the dipstick .
  3. Wipe the dipstick clean with a dry cloth.
  4. Reinstall the dipstick. Remove the dipstick and check the oil level. The oil level should be between the “safe” marks on the dipstick.
  5. Add the recommended oil as needed. Do not overfill.

Oil Change

  1. Position the vehicle on a level surface.
  2. Place a drain pan under the drain plug . Remove the drain plug. Allow the oil to drain completely.
  3. Clean the drain plug.
    TIP
    The sealing surface on the drain plug and gearcase should be clean and free of burrs, nicks, or scratches.
  4. Reinstall the drain plug. Torque to 6-10 ft. lbs. (8-13 Nm).
  5. Remove the dipstick.
  6. Using a funnel, slowly add the recommended oil. Do not overfill. Fluid capacity is 20 oz. (591 ml).
  7. Reinstall the dipstick.
